Monika Jones Designer of Folk Art Landing patterns Open Class
Creating an Antique Look using Wide Cuts & Textures
Monika started rug hooking in 2000. Her passion until then had been recreating Antique Quilts and her hooked rug designs follow that venue.
She is teaching traditional rug hooking, specializing in textured, over-dyed wool and wider cut strips. Her rug hooking patterns draw inspiration from primitive and antique rugs. The rugs have the “High Country” twist and complement any style of decorating.
She encourages students to reflect on their personal style with a wide range of techniques. Monika will guide the student to choose colors and textures to create an individual look for their rug.
The workshop will focus on color planning, working with textured wool, mixing strip sizes, hooking techniques for motifs and backgrounds (including the “messy hooking”), piecing a pattern foundation, blocking and several ways to finish the edges of a rug.
